This is the best guacamole recipe because it’s simple to make and uses fresh, high-quality ingredients. Authentic guacamole doesn’t contain unnecessary ingredients. All you need are avocados, onion, tomatoes, cilantro, jalapeno pepper, lime juice, garlic, and salt. Easy and delicious! A Cooking Secrets for Men special!
Pick ripe avocados for the Best Guacamole
The best guacamole starts with ripe avocados. Look for avocados that are ripe, but firm. You definitely don’t want soft and mushy avocados.

So, how do you pick good, ripe avocados? First, grab avocados that still have the stem attached. If the stem has been removed in the store, it has brown spots on the inside. Then, gently press on one end. It should be firm but have a slight give to it. If it’s as hard as a golf ball, put it back; it’s not ripe yet.
The lime juice, to an extent, mutes the heat of the jalapeno and mellows the garlic slightly. Citrus juices have a positive effect on many foods.
The tortilla chips should be of good quality. Thin, cheap tortilla chips break off in the Guacamole, and then you are faced with a possible double-dip situation.
Other uses for Guacamole
Guacamole goes well with most Mexican/Southwestern dishes. Burritos, Chimichangas, nachos, just about anything you would find in a Mexican restaurant.
The History of Guacamole
Guacamole has a rich history that dates back to the Aztecs, who called it ahuacamolli, meaning “avocado sauce” in Nahuatl. The dish was originally made by mashing avocados with salt and sometimes adding tomatoes and chili peppers. The Spanish conquistadors arrived in Mexico in the 16th century. They encountered this flavorful creation. They helped spread its popularity.
Avocados themselves have been cultivated for thousands of years, with evidence of human consumption dating back 8,000–7,000 BC in Mexico. The fruit was highly valued by the Aztecs and Mayans, who believed it provided strength and vitality. Over time, guacamole evolved. It incorporated ingredients like lime juice, onions, and cilantro. It became a staple in Mexican cuisine and later an international favorite.
In the 20th century, guacamole gained widespread popularity in the United States, especially after the U.S. lifted restrictions on avocado imports in the 1990s. Today, it’s a must-have at Super Bowl parties, Cinco de Mayo celebrations, and countless gatherings worldwide.🍴🥑

Tasty and Easy!
Delicious looking guacamole and very good advice on picking out those avacado’s.
The lime juice also keeps the avocado relatively green. Sometimes I add cumin to mine as well.
Thanks Bernadette
