BBQ Ribs on the Green Egg
Cooking BBQ ribs in the oven and finishing them on the grill is a great way to achieve tender, flavorful ribs. Here’s how we do it:
Step 1 – Oven-Baking the Ribs

Preheat your oven to 275°F (135°C).
Season the ribs with your favorite dry rub or marinade. Wrap them tightly in aluminum foil to create a packet.
Place the foil-wrapped ribs on a baking sheet and bake for 2.5 to 3 hours.
This slow cooking will make the meat tender and juicy.
Step 2 – Finishing BBQ Ribs on the Grill:

Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (around 350°F to 400°F).
Unwrap the ribs and brush them with barbecue sauce on both sides.
Grill the ribs directly over the heat for about 5 minutes per side, basting with more sauce as needed.
This step adds a smoky flavor and caramelizes the sauce.
Step 3 – Rest and Serve the BBQ Ribs

Let the ribs rest for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
Cooking BBQ Ribs in the oven ensures tenderness, while the grill adds grill marks and smokiness.
The Big Green Egg is a popular type of kamado grill, named after the traditional Japanese kamado—an egg-shaped wood- or charcoal-fueled cooker made from ceramic material, such as clay. Here’s what you need to know:

- Versatility: The Big Green Egg is incredibly versatile. It can grill, smoke, roast, bake, and more. Its ceramic construction retains heat efficiently, allowing for precise temperature control.
- Quality: Crafted with thick ceramic walls, the Egg stores more heat than regular charcoal grills. This radiates evenly around the food as it cooks, resulting in delicious meals.
- Ease of Use: The Big Green Egg quickly reaches the perfect cooking temperature and is ready to use within minutes. Lighting the natural lump charcoal is straightforward due to efficient air circulation
Whether you’re grilling chicken, baking pizza, or slow-smoking ribs, the Big Green Egg delivers really good results
Let’s compare the Big Green Egg and the Weber grills:
Overall Design:
Big Green Egg: Originating from the Japanese Kamado oven, the Big Green Egg is a thick ceramic, air-tight oven. It’s versatile and can handle everything from bread to pizza.
Weber: Known for its iconic kettle-style charcoal grill, Weber has a proven history of quality.

Price:
Big Green Egg: Eggs are in the higher price range due to their versatility. An XL model Egg (24″) costs around $1399 without accessories.
Weber – Weber grills are more budget-friendly and less expensive than Eggs
Heat Retention and Versatility:
Big Green Egg: Offers superior heat retention for precise temperature control. Excels in smoking and baking.
Weber: While versatile, it doesn’t match the Egg’s temperature control capabilities.

So, if you prioritize convenience and affordability, go for a Weber grill. But if you seek exceptional temperature control and durability, consider the Big Green Egg

I have only heard great things about the big green egg! We have nothing like that.
Thanks Mimi
Best ribs I’ve had in a long time
I love how easy you’ve made this recipe and I especially like how few ingredients are required. These ribs are the perfect way to serve big flavors with hardly any hands on time.
