My entry into the collab is Salisbury Steak. If you are of a certain age, you almost assuredly ate Salisbury Steak TV dinners.
Who Invented Salisbury Steak?
Salisbury Steak was invented by Dr. James Salisbury, who did a lot of work in germ theory. He invented Salisbury Steak to combat illness among Civil War troops. He developed it as a cure for digestive illness during the Civil War.

What we grew up with, known as TV dinners, was invented by Swanson in 1954. Swanson TV Dinners gave people a way to put tasty meals on the table without cooking and for whatever reason, we ate them in front of the television.

There were no microwaves back then, so everything was heated in the oven. Swanson TV dinners were the first successful frozen meals. More than 10 million TV dinners were sold in the first year.
For $.98 per dinner, you got to choose between Salisbury steak, meatloaf, fried chicken, or turkey and Gravy, served with mashed potatoes and bright green peas; desserts were in the center tray on top.
The food in a TV dinner was separated into a divided metal tray and heated in the oven. And of course, you never let your food touch in the TV Dinner trays.
So, here is my ode to days gone by, with a nod to TV dinners: Salisbury Steak, Mashed Potatoes, and green peas.

Easy Homemade Salisbury Steak Recipe
This Homemade Salisbury Steak Recipe is a throwback to the 50’s TV dinner, but a million times better and still so easy. On the table in 30 minutes for a great family-friendly dinner option.
Most people know Salisbury Steak from the popular 50’s TV dinner, but you can easily make it at home and it tastes much better.
What is Salisbury Steak?
Well, it’s not steak at all. Salisbury Steak is ground beef with spices, made into oval-shaped patties. But then we kick it up a notch by braising in a hearty mushroom gravy and served over mashed potatoes.
Use Breadcrumbs and an egg to hold the patties together. We use Panko breadcrumbs and an egg to act as a binder for the beef so they hold their shape better while cooking.
Brown the patties first, then use the drippings to flavor the gravy. Once you brown the patties, transfer them to a plate. Then, use the pan drippings for extra flavor while making the mushroom gravy.
Return the partially cooked steaks to the pan. Once the mushrooms are tender, the steak patties are returned to the pan, simmering in the gravy until cooked through.
