Bangers & Mash (Sausage with Onion Gravy)

Materials

  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 8 sausages of choice See Note
  • 1 large onion halved and sliced
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 3 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups beef stock
  • salt & pepper to taste
  • Mashed potato For serving
  • Green Peas For serving

Instructions

  • Heat oil in a large pan over medium-high heat.

  • Add sausages and cook, turning, until browned all over and cooked through.

  • Remove the sausages onto a plate. Turn the heat down to medium.
    Remove the bangers and mash
  • Add 2 tbsp of oil left in the skillet. If needed
  • Add onion and garlic, cook until golden brown – around 4 minutes.

  • Add salt and pepper to taste
  • Add flour and mix through. Then cook, stirring constantly, for 2 min.

  • Add 3/4 cup of beef broth and mix into the onion to become a slurry.

  • Then add the remaining beef broth and mix until combined. If it's lumpy, use a whisk to help make it smooth.
  • Simmer, stirring, for 2 to 3 minutes until the gravy thickens.

  • Add salt and pepper. Stir, taste, then add more salt if you want.
  • Serve sausages with plenty of onion gravy, mashed potatoes, and peas on the side.

Sausages – You can use any sausages you want, classic Bangers and Mash is made with thick pork sausages.
