Ground Turkey Spaghetti Sauce

Today we are making a healthy spaghetti sauce, using ground turkey instead of ground beef.

Equipment

  • 1 Pot for boiling pasta
  • 1 Sauté Pan for the sauce

Materials

  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 2 tbsp Garlic
  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • Italian Spices
  • Salt & Pepper to taste
  • Salt for salted pasta water
  • 1 lb Spaghetti
  • 1 Jar of Marinara Sauce
  • 1/2 cup Red Wine
  • Basil leaves for garnish
  • 1 loaf Bread, sliced in half for Garlic Bread
  • 2 tbsp soft butter for Garlic Bread
  • 1 tsp chopped parsley for Garlic Bread
  • 1 tsp minced garlic for Garlic Bread

Instructions

  • Heat the oven for the bread to 400
  • Heat the salted pasta water
  • Combine butter, minced garlic, and chopped parsley in a small bowl. Set aside for the garlic bread
  • Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large pan

  • Sauté the onions and the garlic. Make sure not to burn the garlic

  • Cook the ground turkey (or ground beef) in the same pan

  • Add Italian seasonings

  • Add a jar of Marinara sauce
  • Using the same jar, add wine or water and swirl to get all the sauce out of the jar
  • Simmer the sauce while you make the bread & pasta

  • Slice the bread in half, length-wise, and spread the compound butter mixture on both sides

  • Bake in the oven for 10-12 minutes at 400
  • Cook pasta according to package directions
  • Finish pasta in the sauce

  • Top with a basil chiffonade and serve with parmesan cheese and garlic bread
