Korean Beef and Rice Bowls

Korean Beef and Rice Bowls (made with Turkey in this recipe) – Korean Beef and Rice Bowls are very easy to make. It is the perfect weeknight meal. Ready in under 30 minutes. We are using ground turkey instead of beef. My son Luke gave me this recipe. I added Aloha Hawaiian Chili honey instead of Brown Sugar and Crushed Red Pepper. We were doing a review of Aloha Honey (@alohahoneyfarm) products in the video.

Korean Beef and Rice Bowls

I am of an age where we had ground beef on rice often for dinner when I was a kid. The Korean Beef Rice Bowl recipe here is a bit of reminiscing. It is full of Asian flavors and very simple. Not only will this dish be ready and on your table in only 20 minutes, but it also tastes delicious the next day.

Never Had Korean Food?

There are lots of delicious flavors in Korean food that you just don’t see often in Western food. One flavor is sesame oil, another is the umami of roasted seaweed. What makes any dish Korean is gochujang. It is kind of spicy ketchup.  If you can’t find Gochujang in your local grocery store, just substitute ketchup and sriracha.

What is Gochujang?

I like to use Gochujang, a Korean hot pepper paste. It’s made with gochu (Korean red chili pepper), rice powder, meju (dried fermented soybeans), and salt. A sweetener is usually added. They ferment the ingredients for weeks. The fermentation produces a deep-red, smooth paste. The taste is spicy, sour, sweet, and salty. The combination is very interesting.

OK, I tried this and loved it but I did use beef. And didn’t have that honey which I think is a great idea. Seems so right for Korean food.

  9. Thanks, Neil, best to you this holiday season!

  10. Thanks, Michael. I’m honored you tried it. Ground turkey is just the go-to in our house. I’m not sure I would order a ground turkey & Rice bowl at a Korean restaurant, but at home, it seems to work. Best to you this holiday season!
