Fish Tacos

Fish Tacos are a summer time treat. Grilled or pan-fried, flaky white fish on a tortilla, with a combo of slaw, crema, salsa, cilantro and whatever else your creative mind can come up with. Healthy, flavorful and refreshing.

  • 1-pound white flaky fish, such as tilapia, mahi mahi or other
  • Salt and pepper
  • Cajun Seasoning, such as Emeril’s Original Essence
  • 4-8 flour tortillas

Lime  Crema (just a fancy way to say Sour Cream & Lime)

  • 8 oz. sour cream
  • Zest of one lime
  • Juice of one lime
  • 1 small clove garlic, minced
  • Salt & Pepper to taste
  • (Combine ingredients in a small bowl)

Cabbage Slaw

  • Shredded store bought cole slaw
  • ¼ cup chopped cilantro leaves
  • Thinly sliced green or red onion
  • (Optional) 1 teaspoon chopped jalapeno pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil
  • Juice of ½ lime
  • Salt & Pepper to taste
  • (Combine ingredients in a small bowl)

Optional Garnish

  • Salsa
  • Lime wedges
  • Hot sauce

Directions

  1. Heat oil in a cast iron or similar pan. (If grilling, directions are the same)
  2. Salt & Pepper both sides of fish
  3. Place fish in pan (or on the grill), flesh side down.
  4. Season with Cajun seasoning while fish cooks
  5. Cook the fish for 2-3 minutes on the first side
  6. Flip fish and cook for 2-3 minutes. Season 2nd side with Cajun season
  7. Remove from heat and allow to rest.
  8. Make lime crema
  9. Make Cabbage slaw
  10.  Divide the fish among the tortillas and garnish with any or all of the garnishes.

  1. Lovely recipe! I really dig the simplicity. Dudes, as we both know, are often not the most skilled cooks.

Also, discovering and experimenting with blender cremas has completely changed my game in the realm of Mexican and Tex-Mex cooking.

I just threw up my own taco recipe for shrimp tacos, and I thought I’d ask you for a little feedback (should you find yourself with spare time). Chef on, Chef!
