How to Slice an Avocado – video

How to Slice an Avocado – Avocados are one of nature’s best foods, having been dubbed a “SuperFood”. The avocado is one of the most nutrient-full foods available. Ounce for ounce, they are among the richest in fiber, folate, potassium, vitamin E, and magnesium among all fruits. I love avocados and eat 1-2 a week. In our house, it’s not a salad unless there is an avocado in it.

This video shows how to use the handy avocado tool pictured above, as well as create perfect avocado slices and custom-sized diced avocado. We show you how to slice an avocado.

Removing the pit from an avocado is one of those supposedly “easy” tasks that we think could use a little explaining. How do you hold the avocado still? Do you have to use a chef’s knife? How do you keep from cutting yourself? If you’ve never done it before, all of this can definitely feel a bit scary!

The basic method for removing an avocado pit involves whacking a chef’s knife into the exposed pit of the avocado.

Use a chef’s knife. You’ll need the heft of a chef’s knife to penetrate the avocado pit. A paring knife is too thin and wobbly.

Grip your knife correctly. Pinch the blade of the knife just in front of the handle between your thumb and first finger, then curl your fingers around the handle. This will give you maximum control over the knife. As long as you are careful, you should be fine.
